Can I take my car onboard?
Our Vessels provide transport for foot passengers only.
How far in advance should I arrive for my ferry departure?
For all ferry services, we recommend arriving at the ferry terminal at least 5-10 minutes prior to ferry departure especially on public holidays and during the busy summer season. Please maintain 2m physical distancing while waiting for the ferry to arrive.
Where can I enquire about lost property?
If you have left personal belongings on one of our vessels, please pop us an email at info@queenstownferries.co.nz
How much luggage can I take on the ferry?
Just like an airline or bus service our ferries have limited luggage capacity. While travelling with us, you'll need to ensure you can carry your own luggage onboard and we recommend only 1-2 large items each for the comfort of yourself and other passengers. How can I buy ferry Tickets?
You can buy these onboard the ferry from the skipper.
All payment to be via contactless payment, payWave only.
Eftpos and Cash payments will not be taken during COVID period.
How long is my ticket valid for, and do I have to travel on a specific sailing?
Your ticket will not expire and you can use your tickets on any sailings.
How come there has been an increase on Concession Trips? What are these?
These are 10 trip tickets, for a discounted rate. The change in price is to reflect these we will now allow these to be transferrable among all travel passengers travelling together. For example, if you are travelling with your friends you can use your concession card for everyone.
Can I stay at my destination overnight? If so, do I need a different ticket?
You can use your return, concession and one way tickets on any sailing, on any day.
Can I charter a vessel for a private function, school or private trip?
You certainly can, we have a range of options available as standard – and a number of vessels to suit your group size. Please contact info@queenstownwatertaxis.co.nz for accurate quote / Prices depend on pax capacity required and/or boat size and start from $149.
Can children travel unaccompanied?
We strongly recommend a parent, guardian or older relative accompany any child under 12 years of age on all services. We cannot and will not take any responsibility for the supervision and care for children under 12 years of age under any circumstances. Can I take my bike onboard?
Yes you can, one bike can travel free with each fare-paying passenger. Although this is first in first served as there is limited capacity. So please understand we will do our best to support you and your bike getting across the lake the best we can.
What amenities are available on board?
Unfortunately these are small ferries. There are no toilets, wi-fi, power points, luggage racks Or bike racks onboard. Only comfy seats for passengers.
Can I purchase food and beverages on board?
Sorry, there are no food or beverage facilities on this short trip.
Can I take my dog onboard?
We would love to meet your dog! Yes, dogs travel free with any fare-paying passenger. They do not have to be kept in a crate, cage or pet carrier – but we do require them to be on a lead.
Can I take my scooter on the ferry?
Scooters travel free with any fare-paying passenger on most services, subject to available space. As there is limited space please ensure you position your scooter safely and out of the way of other passengers. This is applicable for E or Person Powered scooters – not mopeds.
Are all ferries wheelchair accessible?
Unfortunately at the moment, they are not accessible as standard. But if you contact info@queenstownwatertaxis.co.nz we will do our best to support any accessibility requirements.
Can I bring a children's stroller?
Yes, that is no problems at all – ideally based please ensure you look out for the needs and space of other cliental during your journey.
I want to go and play golf at the Queenstown Golf Club, can I use the ferry for this?
Yes, you can – just let info@queenstownwatertaxis.co.nz Know what departure you wish to travel on and they will drop you off. Then on completion of your round, the course will be able to call our skipper to get them to swing past again on the next trip.

Do you do trips to Glenorchy, Walter and Cecil peak or any other parts of the lake not on the ferry route?
